Crowdfunder UK and Bristol Green Capital Partnership are launching a city-wide crowdfunding platform for Bristol businesses delivering environmental and social impact.
People in Bristol and the South West – as well as further afield – are being invited to help crowdfund more than £1 million to help develop Bristol-based businesses delivering social and environmental impact.
‘Better Bristol’ is a new rewards-based crowdfunding platform created by the UK’s largest crowdfunding platform, CrowdfunderUK, in partnership with Bristol Green Capital, the organisation that secured Bristol’s position as European Green Capital 2015.
Following its full launch in 2016, projects and businesses wishing to use the Better Bristol crowdfunding platform to raise funds must share BGCP’s mission ‘to create a low carbon city with a high quality of life for all’, and will need to fall into one of three categories: People, Planet and Enterprise.
Businesses currently looking to raise funds from investors via the platform include:
- We Feed The World – £160K target: a global photographic campaign led by Beyond GM to raise awareness of the benefits of responsible farming and the fact that 70% of the world’s food comes from small family farmers
- Secret of Change – £13K target: a documentary film series about building Sustainable and Resilient Communities in the UK and North America
- StreetGoat – £15K target: a groundbreaking project designed to connect communities to share in a piece of the good life in urban Bristol. StreetGoat teaches groups how to collectively keep dairy goats on small patches of overgrown unusable land, sharing the costs, and the responsibilities of caring for and milking the animals in return for a share of the produce.
Better Bristol campaign manager Kath Cockshaw says, ‘The Better Bristol platform offers a fundraising route for projects that the Bristol community really want to see happen. Bristol now has a huge opportunity to show just how crowdfunding can transform a city.’
Liz Zeidler, Chair of Bristol Green Capital Partnership adds: ‘The Better Bristol crowdfunding platform will support and promote the activities of those businesses in the city with a passion for positive change. We hope this will build a broad, active legacy of Bristol’s Green Capital 2015 programme.’
Previous Bristol-based projects which started life on the CrowdfunderUK platform and surpassed their initial targets, include ‘The Wave’ an in-land surfing lake which raised a total of £219,473, ‘Roll for the Soul’ a community-focused bike workshop and café in Bristol city centre which raised £12,917, and last summer ‘The Bristol Grand Prix’ city centre cycle race, which raised £16,299 from the crowd and local businesses.
